Jeff Brown

My name is Jeff Brown and I am a Business Broker/M&A Specialist.  I help successful business owners exit their businesses cleanly & profitably. 

​In addition to being a Colorado business broker, I am also a former M&A attorney and entrepreneur with five successful business exits of my own. 

 

As an attorney I spent many years representing dozens of buyers and sellers in transactions spanning a wide range of values and complexities.  I also advised clients on issues such as protecting intellectual property, choosing the best business structure to  accomplish their goals, and many other matters surrounding business ownership and transition.  Serving as an M&A lawyer for both buyers and sellers gave me great insight into the hopes, fears, and motivations of the people on both sides of the transaction. 

 

As an entrepreneur I've owned and run several businesses in a variety of industries.  I spent over a decade running day to day operations of these business and preparing them for sale.  So I know what's it like to run a business and have people depending on you. I also know how hard it is to keep running a business at a high level while also trying to sell it.

 

When it comes to business acquisitions, my experience as a buyer, seller, attorney, and broker gives me a unique and valuable perspective that few other advisors can match.

My Story

As a seller’s agent, I bring over 25 years of M&A experience and knowledge to help my clients increase the value of their business, prepare it for sale, and get top dollar for it. 


My background is quite different from your typical business broker. Although I do not currently practice law, I am a licensed attorney and practiced corporate law full time for 15 years after receiving my law degree from Vanderbilt University.  I worked with hundreds of businesses ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. I represented both buyers and sellers in business acquisitions. I also represented technology companies with issues such as licensing and IP protection.

 

I began my career as an associate at one of the country's largest and most prestigious law firms before moving in house with a couple of Fortune 500 companies.  I then started my own law firm which I ran for about 6 years.  After selling my law firm, I spent the next decade buying, managing, and selling several businesses on my own behalf and have completed five successful exits as an owner.


I then was associated with Business Acquisitions, Ltd, one of the oldest and largest business brokerage firms in Colorado before they were acquired by a larger national firm.  I have truly seen business acquisitions from all angles and love acting as a resource for business owners. In most cases, selling a business is about much more than just getting top dollar. So, I always try to understand my clients full list of priorities and concerns so that I can assist in the implementation and execution of a comprehensive strategy that will most effectively accomplish their goals.  
 

Even in the best markets, selling a business is a difficult prospect. That is why a significant majority of businesses presented for sale, never actually sell. Unrealistic value expectations, downward financial trends, funding issues, and due diligence presentation can all affect the value and salability of your business.  Working with a qualified broker will increase your chance of a successful transaction.
